Sarah is an oil painter and mixed media artist with many years of experience. She paints portraits to commission and also land and seascapes.

Sarah has a special interest in art for health. During the pandemic, Sarah painted, and later exhibited, five portraits of NHS staff. She was commissioned to paint a member of staff of Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport for the hospital’s COVID-19 Commemoration Art Exhibition which was held at Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery in March 2024.

Sarah’s work is exhibited in the North of England and also in London, including at the prestigious Mall Galleries. Her portraiture is inspired by the sensory experience and emotional memory of the subject depicted. She considers it important to get a good likeness to the sitter but also to bring out something of the sitter’s spirit and personality in the painting.

Sarah’s artistic influences are many including Lucien Freud, Celia Paul, Hughie O’Donoghue, Miles Richmond and Sheila Fell.

Sarah is based at her studio in Vernon Mill, Stockport, where she also teaches painting and drawing.

In the I’m Still Me exhibition, Sarah has painted ‘Suzie’s Eye’ (prosthesis held in a hand), portraits of patients Tim, Chris and David, and a portrait of maxillofacial prosthetist Paul.

The work for this exhibition has been informed by meeting the subjects and then painting from photographs taken by Sarah or by the collaborators. Sarah also acted as the artist coordinator for this project.
