Global award finalist

Sherika Whitelocke-Ballingsingh

Global Awards Jamaica Finalist
- Science and Sustainability

Important research into the impact of pollutants in Jamaica has seen Sherika Whitelocke-Ballingsingh (MPh Public Health 2016) receive international recognition. She has worked alongside the United Nations to create legislative frameworks for lead limits in paints.

Yi Hyun Choi

South Korea Winner - Social Action

Yi Hyun Choi (MA Corporate Communications and Public Relations 2012) is a social entrepreneur who solves environmental problems. In 2015, he founded ‘Continew’, a social enterprise that makes fashion products by upcycling automobile waste.

Sikiru Mohammed

Nigeria Winner - Science and Sustainability 

Sikiru Mohammed (PhD Mechanical Engineering 2018) is an electrical and mechanical engineer and has been recognised for contributions to engineering and STEM education.

Dana Al-abduljabbar

Qatar Winner - Culture and Creativity 

Dana Al-abduljabbar (Graphic and Communication Design 2016) is a professional graphic communication designer, artist, photographer, and short film producer. She aims to enhance her country's culture and heritage through art and design.

Aya Mohamed

Egypt Finalist – Social Action

Aya Mohamed (MSc Environmental and Development 2021) is an environmental researcher and entrepreneur. She is the CEO and co-founder of Recyclizer, a start-up who specialise in recycling plastic waste into a product used to protect agricultural crops.

Pakistan Finalist – Science and Sustainability 

Dr Nafis Ul Haque (PhD Chemical and Process Engineering 2018) is Associate Professor at the NED University of Engineering and Technology in Karachi, Pakistan. He is a world leader in his field.

Raja AlGhamdi

Saudi Arabia Finalist – Culture and Creativity 

Dr Raja AlGhamdi (PhD Modern Languages and Cultures 2016) is an Assistant Professor and the Chairperson of the Department of English Language at Jubail University College. She has presented workshops on translation nationally and internationally.

Aiman Alsaeedi

Saudi Arabia Finalist – Culture and Creativity 

Dr Aiman Alsaeedi (PhD Journalism Studies 2021) is a lecturer at Umm Al-Qura University recognised for his work to establish the first innovation media lab in Saudi Arabia.

Narmin Babayeva

Azerbaijan Finalist - Science and Sustainability

Narmin Babayeva (MSc Exploration Geophysics 2014) is an Exploration Geophysicist. She has been recognised for her work in applied geophysics and integrated geoscience – with a focus on the generation of sand presence maps to identify risk.

Mays AlAdham

Science and Sustainability

Mays AlAdham (MSc Clinical Embryology 2007) credits her successful career as a clinical embryologist to her time at Leeds. Meeting students from different cultures and backgrounds while studying motivated her to share her experiences through international and local conferences.

Roula-Maria Dib

Culture and Creativity

Dr Roula-Maria Dib (PhD English 2018) is an Assistant Professor and Creative Writer at The American University in Dubai. She is recognised for her work to engage local and international creatives through writing.

Business and Innovation

By taking inspiration from business models in the UK, Aakarshan Kathuria (Aviation Technology 2011) introduced a Real Estate crowdfunding portal to the UAE.
